The location of the project site
The Massif de la Montagne is a large “natural” massif of one piece forming a continuous altitudinal gradient between the coastal environments and those of higher altitude towards the circus of Mafate. This site has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010 for the exceptional biodiversity it shelters.

Since 2009 a far-reaching rescue project is ongoing on the heights of La Grande Chaloupe. 30 hectares of forest have been cleared of invasive alien species. 9 hectares have been reforested with native dryforest species. 96,960 pié d’bwa (“wood plants” in La Réunion créole) of 48 species have been replanted and 1800 volunteers have already joined us in this adventure.
La Grande Chaloupe gorges have become a real open-air laboratory and a sanctuary site for experimentations!
The adventure continues with the LIFE + Forêt Sèche project, whose priority is to complement and solidify the efforts already undertaken.
